Seems like these blistering winds and cold temperatures will never go away. You may be wondering, “how much longer before the sun feels warm on my face again?” Hang in there.
No matter if you are the type who hibernates all winter, or can’t wait to get out on the slopes this weekend, we all suffer with dry, itchy and cracked skin. That is the farthest thing from healthy glowing dewy skin.
So buck up and pay attention; here comes 5 tips for healthy winter skin.
Skip The Long Hot Shower
You have heard this before but it bears repeating. It might seem like the best way to warm your cold, cold body in the morning or evening, but don’t do it! It may feel soothing for a few minutes, but it actually does more damage to your skin than help. The hot temperatures actually will strip the natural moisture barrier your skin has. Choose a more lukewarm temperature instead. After patting dry with a towel, immediately slather on your moisturizer.
Skip the Chapstick Too
It’s inevitable our lips will become dry. Some folks suggest using vegetable shortening like Crisco on the lips. Sure, it’s vegan, but personally, we would pass on advising that one.
Instead, how about honey or vaseline on your lips? Wait about 15 minutes, then gently remove it with a cotton swab dipped in warm water. Sounds better to us, and it works.
The Coconut Oil Fix
Coconut oil is all natural with no toxic extras like you will find in your local drug store moisturizers. It penetrates deeply into the skin and smells divine too.
It’s great on cuticles and has multiple other uses. We like creating your very own body scrub. Mix coconut oil with coconut sugar for a gentle exfoliator. Use once or twice a week.
The Non-Negotiable – Must Have Humidifier
If you wake up in the morning with dry eyes, dry tight skin, and a cough, head straight to a retailer and purchase a good humidifier. Find one that will last year after year and puts out a cool mist. Buying more than one is even better. The bedroom is a must, but add another one in an area where you spend a lot of time.
Rubber Gloves and Cotton Socks
Even if you have a dishwasher in your kitchen, you still have to rinse your dishes and clean those pots and pans. Don’t subject your hands to that misery every night. They still sell rubber gloves for a reason. You may feel silly wearing them, but you will be glad to did. Your cuticles and your manicurist will too.
Before you retire for the night, give your feet a treat. Moisturize them luxuriously (don’t forget your heels). Then put on some cotton socks to lock in that moisture for the night.
Then dream about the warmer weather that’s coming…soon…yes soon.
